One box will be used for your file system and the other will be used for locations. You will find that additional boxes will need to be purchased as you increase your research. Boxes with a lid. The boxes need to be strong - preferably made of plastic and with horizontal inner ridges or groves for hanging letter-size hanging files.

Hanging File Folders -
Minimum 4 ( each color ) *

Letter-size hanging file folders in blue, green, red and yellow. They come with 1/3 and 1/5 cut slots, which has to do with the size of the plastic tab. Choose the 1/5 cut which works best with this system. Hanging file folders keep the manila folders from slipping down in the file box. * You will need 4 of each color minimum. Most office supply companies sell the colored file folders in packs of 25.

Manila Folders
Minimum- Box of 50

1/3 cut tabs assorted, with reinforced tops to last through heavy use. Use 1\3 cut so that the labels will fit on the folder. (1\5 cut wont give you the room to place the label on it and write down the information.) Paying a little more for reinforced tops will be well worth it because you won't have to redo your work down the road a few years.

Pen

Ultra fine point, felt tip, black permanent ink. This must be permanent ink for use with both labels and charts.

Highlighter pens
Minimum- 1 each of 4 colors

Light blue, light green, yellow and pink (don't use red because it is too dark.) These come in packs and our suggestion also contains orange which may be used in the color system. Colored pencils also work.

Labels ( folder)
Minimum- 1 package

You will need labels in blue, green, red, and yellow. They should be permanent adhesive backed or you may have to replace them over time. The labels should be 1\3 cut to mach the Manila folder cut. Packaged 248 in a 4 color assortment.

You will need labels in blue, green, red, and yellow. 3\4 round. They should be permanent adhesive backed or you may have to replace them over time. WARNING: we state that these labels should be permanent however the only one on the market that we have found are removable.
